VOC Capital’s general partners are the single largest investors in our fund – we put our own money at risk in contrast to typical venture capital firms that have low General Partner contribution.
Jan-Niek de Groot
Jan-Niek de Groot (1964) is VOC Capital Partner’s founding partner and operational fund manager focused on the acquisition of participations and managing the investment portfolio. Jan-Niek was co-founder and managing director of Infopulse Electronic Commerce and was one of the early internet pioneers, mid nineties, of online banking and trading systems for the financial industry; he also was among the first to implement a near-shore IT outsourcing model for its customers. In 2003 Jan-Niek sold Infopulse to US headquartered Cognizant, an IT multinational with over $10 billion in revenues listed in the NASDAQ-100 and the S&P 500 indices
Han de Groot
Han de Groot (1972) is VOC Capital Partners founding partner, focused on helping entrepreneurs with technological and market insight, organizational development and managing growth. In 1999 Han founded a consumer intelligence company MetrixLab and pioneered online survey research in Europe and the US. He led MetrixLab’s business expansion into the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore and China; he successfully executed 6 acquisitions in the Netherlands, France, UK and the US (MarketTools), and merged MetrixLab in 2014 with former Tokyo Stock Exchange listed MACROMILL, and became its CEO. The merger created the largest provider of online survey research in the world with 1500 employees in the Americas, Europe and Asia, and annual revenues in excess of $300 Million. In October 2015, 16 years after having founded MetrixLab, Han handed over his CEO position to his American successor Scott Ernst and became non-executive member of the Global Board of Directors. Han continues to be shareholder of the MACROMILL group.
Pieter Schoen (1975) is VOC Capital Partners founding partner, focused on helping entrepreneurs with managing aggresive growth, leveraging his extensive marketing and sales experience. Pieter is Founder and Director of “de Nederlandse Energie Maatschappij”, the fourth biggest energy supplier in the Netherlands with over 800.000 customers. Pieter is well known for his national customer acquisition media campaigns. From 2009 untill 2012 he was able to realize a huge marketing campaign (over EUR 65M) fully based on a ‘No Cure, No Pay’ stucture. Since the inception of de Nederlandse Energie Maatschappij in 2005, its turnover has grown to € 460 million. In 2015 Pieter became non-executive member of the board and remains a major shareholder of the company.
Robert Wilhelm has over 25 years of experience in venture capital, mergers & acquisitions, business development and entrepreneurship. Currently he is a senior advisor to VOC Capital Partners and a partner at Solid Ventures. Prior to this he was partner at the growth capital firm Endeit Capital. He was the founding managing partner of NeSBIC CTe Fund, a value added venture capital group investing in early stage technology companies in Europe and USA, that he founded in 1997. He was previously a Senior Executive Mergers & Acquisitions of the pan European telecommunications joint venture Unisource NV for 4 years. Prior to Unisource, he had over 5 years of international venture capital experience at Atlas Venture in Amsterdam and Boston. He is an active and committed member of the board of several companies.
Jan Willem Gerritsen
Jan Willem Gerritsen (1973) is founding partner of VOC Capital Partners. JW joined MetrixLab as its COO and CFO soon after its inception in 2000. His expertise relates to business model optimization, operational excellence and financial management. JW was the mastermind behind MetrixLab‘s annual 70% growth rate while maintaining a 40% ebitda margin during its first 8 years of business operation. "Growing with profits" is his specialty. JW partnered with Han de Groot, MetrixLab’s CEO on their M&A journey and international business expansion into Europe, executed the acquisition of MarketTools in the US, and supported the new offices in South America and Asia. Today as part of the MACROMILL Group, JW oversees MetrixLab’s business in Europe and the Americas.
Nico Schuurbiers (1975) is within the VOC Capital Partner team focused on helping new venture entrepreneurs with their financial planning and budgeting process in order to maximise growth potential. Nico is Founder and Director of Petplan, a leading provider of pet health insurances.
After his graduation Nico worked for KPN Mobile as marketing manager. He also set up a sales office in London for a new media company. Before starting up Petplan Nico conducted research and made analysis of the debt collecting business and valuation of outstanding debt portfolios. He did this both for Hal Investments and as an entrepreneur.
